SIPTU College manages the ICTU/SIPTU Trade Union Studies Certificate programme for the National College of Ireland (NCI). It is a nationally and internationally recognised award at Level 6 on the National Qualification Framework – see this link National Qualification Framework
In order that any such certificate can be awarded, a process of ‘validation’ is required. Validation is a regulatory process that determines if an award can be offered by an education and training provider, such as SIPTU College. This process is required for any programme that intends to enrol learners and the validation generally lasts for five years. After this time, a provider must then apply for ‘Revalidation’ which involves a substantial internal and external review of the entire programme.
We have conducted this review and have engaged with past learners; prospective learners; union members and staff. Taking on board all of the suggestions, we have designed a new look Trade Union Studies. We have added new modules; split some into shorter modules and found ways to make the programme more relevant, more enjoyable and easier for you to access.
Applications for a January 2021 start have now closed. There has been a phenomenal response and we have had to offer extra classes to accommodate everybody. Subject to availability it may be possible to join some modules in April and we hope to have a full intake again in September 2021. You will find access to an application form here at a later date.
