This course will start by introducing you to trade union organising theory and practice; the importance of union density and the contribution of collective bargaining to the advancement of workers. On completion you should be able to map your workplace; identify key workplace issues; survey your membership and plan an organising campaign. The course will also advance your communication skills, in particular those likely to be of most use to you in an organising environment.
Entry requirements: You must be a SIPTU member and nominated to attend the course by your SIPTU Organiser. Normally you will have completed some Introductory or Basic training but we will recognise long service as a union activist instead.
Certification: This course can lead to a recognised qualification – Level 5 QQI minor award – 5N5328. It is also possible to combine this award with others towards a major award.
Support: All SIPTU College courses are taught by experienced tutors who combine their own trade union experience with appropriate academic qualifications. As a participant on a SIPTU College course you will have access to SIPTULearn.ie, an online portal through which you can access course notes, multimedia content, quizzes and links to relevant course material in order to reinforce classroom learning.
